Marseille, the scene Paris is finally watching

Labels, galleries, reclaimed warehouses: over ten years the city has built a cultural ecosystem that no longer waits for the capital's approval. A report.

The first thing you notice is that nobody talks about Paris.

A parallel economy

Cheap rent made possible what Paris forbids: large studios, collectives that hold together, projects that outlast a season. Precarity still exists, but it's no longer the only horizon.

We didn't build a scene against Paris here. We built one without giving it a thought.

What's really changing

Institutions are following. Major houses are taking notice. The risk is already known and already named by everyone: that the city becomes a resource instead of a place.
